Lost but not forgotten

It's the end of the year, and Youtube, Spotify, and everything in between have a list of 2022 wrapped. Scrollify brings you a quick run-through of the best and worst that 2022 had to offer. Here is Scrollify wrapped 2022, breaking down the rollercoaster of a ride that 2022 was into four editions of our newsletter. Here is edition 3, covering major events from July 2022 to September 2022.

This time period had the world mourning the loss of many influential personalities. However, even as sadness blanketed the world on these losses, it also gave us a moment to celebrate the lives of these persons.

A humble stock market genius- these are the adjectives people use for Rakesh Jhunjhunwala. He died on August 14, 2022, but he shall be remembered for all the work he has done. Entering the stock market at 25 with Rs. 5000, India’s Warren Buffet, garnered a grand fortune of $5.8 billion in his lifetime. He was known for his successful stock market investments and ability to spot lucrative investment opportunities. Jhunjhunwala began his career as a chartered accountant before branching out into the world of finance. He quickly gained a reputation as a savvy investor, with a knack for spotting undervalued stocks and turning them into profitable investments.

Taking lessons his father taught him rather seriously, he learned to hold onto the value of simplicity. He once said that his father was keen on how much he returned to society from what he had gained over the years. And this was what the billionaire stock investor went by throughout his life. In 2021, he donated 25% of his annual income to charity. Last year he donated more than 13 lakhs each day. And this is a big deal even for the 36th richest man in India.

With St. Jude, A free shelter for underprivileged cancer-bound children, he helped more than 31,262 children. he even set his foot strong into education. Agastya and Ashoka University are institutions under his stature that work towards imparting knowledge. Even while he was not in great health, he worked towards opening the R Jhunjhunwala Sankara Eye Hospital as a tribute to his father. The specialty of this hospital is that it runs by the 20:80 model, whereby two out of 10 surgeries are subsidized for those that can afford it, and the rest are done for free. A man who truly believed that giving money to charitable organizations was one thing, but being actively involved in these causes was another.

Long lived the Queen!

Britain bid farewell to Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away at 96 on September 8, 2022. Her Majesty was the longest reigning monarch in British history, ascending to the throne in 1952 upon her father's death, King George VI. And she reigned for 70 years. One could say she saw it all and mostly survived it all, be it wars, the Great Smog of London, government downfall, global depletion, or even a pandemic. She has been a constant presence in the British's lives during her reign, symbolizing stability and continuity through times of great change and upheaval.

Known for her dedication to public service, and throughout her reign, she carried out thousands of official engagements and toured numerous countries around the world. Her death marks the end of an era, and she will be greatly missed by the people of the United Kingdom and beyond. Her dedication to her country and people has been unwavering, and she will be remembered as a beloved and respected figure in the history of the British monarchy.
