What is Twitter (Dad edition)

If you are the current younger generation who have been around mobiles and laptops and smart TVs for quite some time or worse if you work in the tech industry the most dreaded conversations is trying to explain how stuff on Internet worksđŸ˜€

If you think of it neither you nor me knows how actually this stuff works. We were just privileged enough to live in a time where the herd mentality made us login and sign up on the so called "Social Networks". I mean the only reason I joined Instagram was because of my crush (who remained a crush only *sigh*). I couldn't care less about posting my acne filled selfies on Instagram and share it with the world.

With Twitter dominating global headlines and the not so recent apple of all Indian parent's eyes Parag Agarwal without a job, we thought what the hell is twitter and what's it all about is soon going to be hurled at you.

Father : "Hello, Yes son what is going on?"

Me : "Nothing just creating some threads for Twitter, You say reached home?"

Father : "No at work right now. Since you mentioned Twitter it has been in the news almost everyday. That hard working Parag Agarwal has also been fired from Twitter."

Me already anticipating the next sentence he is going to say. Cry for help

Father : "What is this Twitter anyways?"

Me : "Umm well it is a place to write anything in 280 letters. If you are at work you can tweet that, if you are eating pizza you can tweet that, if you hate the latest movie you can tweet that whatever you want!"

Father : "I see. And if I have to Tweet 'Modiji is love' I can tweet that too?"

Me : "Yes you can" (Father's social media posts are incomplete without Modiji)

Father : "But I'm already writing all this on Facebook and Whatsapp statuses, why do I need to write it on Twitter?"

Me : "Well on Facebook and Whatsapp what you post gets seen only by a handful of people, only the people in your contacts and your friend list. On Twitter it all the people on Twitter can see that."

Father : "Why would they care?"

Me : "Well they don't really but twitter is meant to let you share your thoughts with the world. While they do not care about whether I ate pizza for lunch a lot of famous people use it to share their thoughts and opinions with the world, something that people care!"

Father : "What famous people?"

Me : "Actors, Businessmen, Sportsmen almost everyone uses Twitter"

Father : "Even politicians use Twitter?"

Me : "Yes dad he too uses Twitter"

Father : "Good catching up with you son let me check out this Twitter finally."

Me : "Yes dad"
