What does the future look like for the 8 BILLION of us on Earth?

It took us just 11 years to reach from 7 billion to 8 billion. That is a serious thing to consider!

Not a long time back, in 1804, fewer than one billion people roamed our planet. More than a century later, in 1927, we crossed 2 billion. Fast forward to 2022 and the population has reached 8 billion, just 11 years after it reached 7.

You might be thinking, with Earth’s limited resources, such an explosive population growth is not sustainable. But, statistics tell us otherwise. The average growth rates around the world is projected to FALL in the coming years. What drives global population growth is that fewer people are dying young.

Global life expectancy was 72.8 years in 2019, an increase of nine years since 1990. That is expected to increase to 77.2 years by 2050. While slowing growth rates in populous nations like China and United States are threatening to upend societies, rising birth rates in poorer nations threaten to strain systems that are already struggling.

India currently stands at a 1.417 billion population and is all set to surpass China and become number one, not something to show off! Endeavours to control the Indian population have been active but overlooked. Despite the Two Child Policy being introduced 35 times since the Independence, reasons such as sex-election and unsafe abortion have halted its implementation.

Google launches new search, shopping and map features

While the world population is heading towards 8 billion, Google is already processing approximately 8.5 billion searches on it’s browser every day. This sure seems to be the preferred browser for the next generation.

Google has moved much beyond it’s “Browser” status and is venturing into all sorts of cool technologies. Multisearch is a new technology which allows one to make searches, not just through text, but also images. Imagine discovering a restaurant through the picture of a dish which they serve. This will now become a reality with Multisearch!

Some other things which Google is working on include a text translator which works in noisy backgrounds for Google Lens and, AR models and shoes for Google Shopping.

Work Culture in India

If you have ever been stuck in heavy traffic while going to work, you have already felt the effects of the increasing population. It’s no surprise that 20% of Indian applicants are looking for remote work. Moreover, workers are willing to to take even a 20% pay cut for remote roles according to the Center for Creative Leadership.

This is a logical step after many neighbouring countries like Australia, New Zealand and Singapore are open to work flexibility and are also riding the trend!
